Philanthropy
Our national philanthropies, supported by both collegiate and alumnae chapters, are speech and hearing, The House Ear Institute, Gallaudet University, and The Painted Turtle Camp. Through Delta Zeta's philanthropy of speech and hearing, our chapters support local and national speech and hearing organizations, volunteering many hours and generously fundraising for this cause including the Starkey Hearing Foundation and the Old Town Food Pantry.
The Painted Turtle's mission is to provide a year-round, life-changing environment and authentic camp experience for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and Delta Zeta members world-wide volunteer at the camp as well as raise money for this philanthropy. Delta Zeta members take change into their own hands by volunteering wherever they see a need. Our chapter holds a campus-wide tug-of-war over jello every year to raise money for the Painted Turtle Camp which we call Turtle Tug. All proceeds are donated through the DZ Foundation to The Painted Turtle Camp so that every child attend the camp free of charge. We also host Hamburger for Hearing, Legendary Legs, and Delta Zeta Data Zeta in which we raise money for our six philanthropy.
Additonally, we strive to volunteer and help all of the other Greek organizations here at the University of Maine by participating in their events and donating to their respective philanthropy's including; Bearfest Dance Marathon, AGR Paint Wars, Chi Omega Wiffle for Wishes, Lambda Chi Bowl-a-Thon, Pi Beta Phi Arrow Spike, Sig Ep's Rock Against Rape, and ATO's the Dating Game.
